Electronics Engineer 


Job Purpose: To design and develop innovative electronics, FPGA and embedded software solutions for Inca’s industrial digital inkjet printers


Inca Digital Printers, part of the Agfa-Gevaert Group within the Digital Print and Chemicals Division, a leading 
global supplier of class leading industrial digital ink jet printers, has a vacancy for a Controls Engineer within 
the Engineering Department. 


Based in our Cambridge development centre and reporting to the Controls Team Leader the applicant 
would be involved in the whole lifecycle of product development from concept and prototype stages, 
through to production and support. 


This role requires experience and skills across the full development lifecycle; from technical specification 
through design and verification, and into product integration and production. 
This role requires a candidate capable of fault finding and troubleshooting electrical control systems and a 
keen desire for problem solving with a methodical approach. 


Principal Responsibilities 

 

 

  • To drive the specification, design and testing of Verilog firmware for FPGAs and embedded software solutions for micro-controllers.
  • To assist in the development of analogue and digital design. Supporting the specification, design and test of electronics hardware.
  • To liaise closely with the Project Manager and Project Team, identifying design requirements: function, reliability, cost, serviceability, and ensure the design integrates correctly.
  • Throughout the development process, to provide technical support to the Manufacturing Team, Procurement and the Design Team, providing assistance with test and build procedures, and the transfer of the product to manufacturing and the customer.
  • Defining appropriate, cost effective manufacturing techniques.
  • Understanding technical risks and devising and implementing mitigation plans.
  • Ensuring new product designs meet all the necessary requirements and mandatory standards.
  • Responsible for ensuring the electronic design of new product developments are delivered to an acceptable quality and on time.
  • Definition of product acceptance criteria & testing.
  • Supporting product integration and acceptance testing.
  • Technical support to end customers.
  • To become familiar with, and adhere to, the Company and Parent Company processes, policies and procedures.

 

Knowledge and Experience 

 

 

  • Relevant qualification (HNC or above) in Electrical and/or Control Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Controls Engineer with more than five years product development and manufacture experience, 
  • preferably in a multidisciplinary manufacturing environment 
  • Proven knowledge of PLC electrical control and multi-axis motion control systems. Experience in using Eplan and/or E3.Series, as well as Beckhoff TwinCAT, is desirable 
  • Previous experience gained within Commercial Printer manufacture or similar Industry, alternatively in Fast Moving Consumer Goods manufacture or System Integrator setting in the design and commissioning of electrical control systems 
  • Up-to-date knowledge of national and international electrical and safety regulations will be advantageous
  • Technical support to end customers.
