Manufacturing Engineer

We are looking for an ambitious Manufacturing Engineer to join a high technology business, developing complex capital equipment for the printing industry. The Manufacturing Engineer will develop and optimise manufacturing processes to streamline production, improve product quality, introduce new products, eliminate waste, and increase throughput.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Understand and follow all Health & Safety procedures. Promote a ‘safety-first’ work environment.
  • Assure product and process quality by adhering to and shaping the Quality Management System. Ensure Quality requirements are clear and achievable, and align with the manufacturing procedures.
  • Develop manufacturing procedures for efficient and cost-effective machine builds. Document current processes and create pictorial technical instructions while validating/auditing drawings and BoMs for accuracy.
  • Prepare manufacturing support documentation for new manufacturing processes, engineering procedures, and New Product Introduction. Train manufacturing staff on new engineering processes and procedures related to Inkjet equipment build.
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analysing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing, six-sigma, root-cause analysis, 5S, to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, consistency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing. Resolve technical issues in manufacturing. Provide new solutions to existing and repeated manufacturing issues.
  • Identify opportunities and implement changes to improve products and reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, materials and parts, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, and product design.
  • Investigate and resolve operational challenges, such as material use variance, BoM discrepancies, Engineering drawing inaccuracies, manufacturing procedure inconsistencies/inaccuracies.
  • Drive Design-For-Manufacture. Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness. Work with R&D to improve product design for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing.
  • Manage Engineering Changes on existing products from R&D to production floor. Collaborate with Procurement and MRP ensuring proper and timely cut in, maintain product and process data base tracking Engineering Changes and production cut ins.

 

Education:

 

  • HND in Manufacturing/Production/Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics Engineering is essential (B.Eng. is desirable)

 

Experience:

 

  • 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment


 

Specific skills:

 

  • Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Working knowledge, experience of product design, assembly, testing.
  • Lean Six-sigma Green Belt will be considered an advantage.
  • Minitab expertise will be considered an advantage.
  • MS Windows, Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Work with employees at all levels and be able to communicate effectively with people from production to director level.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in English.
